Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module and arrested a key operative, recovering 10 kg of heroin from his possession.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the arrested accused has been identified as Sehajpreet Singh, a resident of Jathaul village in Amritsar district.
The operation comes just two days after CI Amritsar dismantled another cross-border smuggling network and arrested four individuals, recovering 27 kg of heroin along with a foreign-made .30 bore PX5 pistol and three cartridges.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigations have revealed that Sehajpreet Singh was allegedly in contact with a foreign-based smuggler and was receiving heroin consignments for further distribution in Punjab.
Sharing details of the operation, DGP Yadav said police teams received specific intelligence that the accused had recently received a large heroin consignment delivered through a drone near his residence and was planning to hand it over to another party. Acting swiftly on the information, CI Amritsar teams conducted a raid at his residence and recovered 10 kg of heroin during the search.
He said further investigations are underway to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network, identify other individuals involved, and dismantle the broader cross-border narcotics syndicate.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 59 dated September 17, 2026, under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station in Amritsar.
