Punjab Police has achieved a major breakthrough against organized crime and foreign-based gangster networks in the state. In a joint operation, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar and Counter Intelligence Jalandhar, along with a central agency, busted a gang allegedly operating under the directions of handlers based abroad.
During the operation, three accused were arrested and three foreign-made sophisticated pistols along with live ammunition were recovered from their possession. Police have registered an FIR at SSOC Police Station, Amritsar, and launched a detailed investigation into the case.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were working on the instructions of foreign-based gangsters involved in gang wars, extortion and other criminal activities in Punjab. The accused were allegedly responsible for transporting weapon consignments from one location to another and facilitating various criminal operations.
Investigators have also found links between the arrested suspects and a murder case registered in Amritsar Commissionerate, as well as an attempted murder case registered in Batala. The findings indicate that the network was not limited to arms trafficking but was also involved in serious violent crimes.
Police are now conducting an in-depth probe to identify other members of the network, local associates and foreign handlers connected to the gang. Authorities are also examining the group's previous criminal activities and possible links to other cases across the state.
