Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence wing has busted a major drug trafficking module and arrested four alleged smugglers with 20 kg of heroin, officials said on Wednesday.
The investigation has revealed that the module was allegedly being operated by a drug trafficker based in Dubai. According to the police, he was coordinating with associates in Punjab as well as other smugglers based abroad.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. The police are investigating the forward and backward links of the network to identify other individuals involved in the drug trade and trace their contacts.
Punjab Police said it is maintaining strict surveillance on cross-border drug trafficking and that action against drug smuggling and organised criminal networks will continue.
The identities of the arrested accused have not yet been disclosed by the police.
