Punjab Police has busted two separate gangs involved in arms and drug smuggling, arresting six accused in a major crackdown against cross-border crime.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Friday that police recovered nearly three kilograms of heroin and eight sophisticated pistols from the arrested suspects.
In a post on X, the DGP stated that teams of the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) and Counter Intelligence, Amritsar, carried out two separate operations that led to the dismantling of the smuggling networks. During the raids, police seized 2.920 kilograms of heroin along with eight high-end pistols.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in cross-border smuggling activities. According to police, the gangs were using drones to receive consignments of weapons and narcotics from across the border and distribute them among criminal elements in Punjab.
Separate FIRs have been registered at the SSOC Police Station in Amritsar. The DGP said further investigations are underway to identify all individuals linked to the cross-border network and to trace both the forward and backward connections of the smuggling operations.
