Punjab Police intensified its ongoing crackdown against organised crime and drug trafficking by conducting 593 raids across the state on Saturday as part of the ‘War Against Gangsters’ campaign, which entered its 242nd day.
Launched on January 20, 2026, by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the campaign aims to make Punjab a gangster-free state. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), carried out operations at identified locations linked to gangster associates.
During the day-long operation, police arrested 269 individuals and recovered three weapons. With these arrests, the total number of persons apprehended under the campaign has reached 72,049. Preventive action was also taken against 233 individuals, while six proclaimed offenders were arrested.
Punjab Police urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals and gangsters through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946, where tips can be provided anonymously.
Meanwhile, the state’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ entered its 567th day, with police arresting 73 drug smugglers and recovering 17.1 kg of heroin, 780 grams of opium, 1,085 intoxicant pills and ₹1,650 in drug money. The total number of drug smugglers arrested under the drive has now reached 78,233.
As part of its de-addiction initiative, Punjab Police also persuaded nine individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
