Punjab Police has launched a comprehensive awareness and empowerment campaign for adolescent girls aged between 12 and 18 years, with a focus on promoting their health, safety, education, and overall development.
As a precursor to the initiative, a coordination meeting was chaired by Special Director General of Police (Community Affairs Division) Gurpreet Kaur Deo at the Conference Hall of Ludhiana Police Lines. The meeting brought together representatives from key government departments, healthcare institutions, educational bodies, and social organisations to develop actionable outreach modules for the program.
The initiative will particularly focus on areas with lower socio-economic indicators and higher vulnerability to crimes against young girls. Addressing the gathering, Special DGP Gurpreet Kaur Deo said the campaign aims to create an informed, confident and resilient generation of young girls capable of making safe decisions and contributing positively to society.
She said the program will adopt an integrated approach covering physical and mental health, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, legal and safety awareness, digital and financial literacy, emotional resilience, leadership development, career guidance, communication skills, and access to government welfare schemes.
The campaign will also extend beyond regular educational institutions to reach school drop-outs, girls from economically weaker and migrant families, girls with disabilities, and those vulnerable to child labour or early marriage.
As part of the outreach strategy, authorities will conduct health check-ups, vocational training sessions, awareness programs through interactive flyers, street plays, and targeted social media campaigns in Punjabi, Hindi and English. Schools, colleges, parents, teachers, non-governmental organisations and community leaders will be actively involved to ensure widespread participation and effective grassroots outreach.
Among those present at the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation-cum-District Community Policing Officer) Ludhiana Rupinder Bhatti, Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur, Head of Community Medicine Department at DMC Ludhiana Dr Anurag Chaudhary, District Child Protection Officer Rashmi, Education Department Principal Amandeep Singh, Jasmine Pahwa from the Do Good Foundation, and researchers from IDRF Chandigarh.
