Punjab Police has achieved another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown against cross-border drug trafficking and organised crime. The Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar busted an international narcotics smuggling network and arrested three key smugglers while recovering 17 kilograms of heroin.
According to police, the seized heroin is valued at more than ₹85 crore in the international market. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar.
The arrested accused have been taken into custody and will be produced before a court to seek police remand for further investigation into the international drug trafficking network.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the three accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based drug smugglers. They allegedly received heroin consignments smuggled across the border through drones and other illegal routes and were involved in distributing the narcotics across Punjab and other parts of the country.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest other members of the network and uncover the full modus operandi of the cross-border smuggling racket.
