Chandigarh, May 16, 2023 - In a bid to promote national integration and foster unity among the diverse cultural groups in city, foundation day of Sikkim state was commemorated with great enthusiasm and fervor at Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, today on May 16 in Guru Nanak Auditorium in the Raj Bhawan premises. The event brought together esteemed dignitaries, government officials, and citizens of Sikkim residing in the region, to celebrate the rich heritage and progress of the state.
The Foundation Day celebrations also served as an opportunity to strengthen the bond between Sikkim and the people residing in Chandigarh. The event provided a platform for Sikkimese residents to connect with their cultural roots, network with fellow citizens, and reinforce the sense of unity and camaraderie among the community.
I have also been the governor in Meghalaya. I have traveled a lot, seen many places, met many people. The biggest feature of Sikkim that impressed me a lot is that the people here are very friendly and peace-loving “said the Governor , he added that Sikkim generates the least plastic waste among all the states of the country and he commend the people of Sikkim for these achievements. This model of cleanliness is exemplary for all the countrymen. He commended the state's remarkable achievements in various sectors, including education, healthcare, tourism, and environmental conservation.
He added that Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi has so much importance of cleanliness in life is that he started national level programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Purohit said that Chandigarh offers a vibrant, cosmopolitan culture where everyday people from diverse walks of life engage and mingle with each other. Chandigarh is indeed a Mini India where people from different states live in harmony and showcase a true vision of India’s unity in diversity
He hoped that the celebration would create a sense of belongingness in the communities staying away from their native States.
The celebrations featured a variety of cultural performances showcasing the vibrant traditions and diversity of Sikkim. Folk dances, melodious musical renditions, and captivating performances by artists from Sikkim enthralled the audience, transporting them to the mesmerizing cultural landscape of the state. The artistic presentations served as a reminder of Sikkim's rich cultural heritage and its commitment to preserving its unique identity.
On 1st May Foundation Day Maharashtra and Gujarat was also celebrated in this very auditorium.
