Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia on Thursday said the people of Punjab are aware of the changes brought under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's leadership and would not want the state to return to what he described as the era of drugs and exploitation of traders.
Sisodia made the remarks after a high-level AAP review meeting in Delhi, where party leaders discussed electoral strategy and the organisational situation in Punjab and other states heading for elections.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Sisodia said all leaders expressed confidence in Bhagwant Mann's leadership and praised the work carried out by the Punjab government. He said the people of Punjab are happy with the Mann government's performance and want to see him continue as Chief Minister.
“People know that if Bhagwant Mann does not remain Chief Minister, Punjab could once again witness the return of drugs and the exploitation of traders,” Sisodia said, while asserting that the current government has worked to improve governance and public service delivery.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister alleged that previous governments misused taxpayers' money and used public resources for political interests. He also claimed that recommendation-based recruitment practices were common in the past and that traders faced widespread harassment and extortion.
Sisodia said Punjab's business community and ordinary citizens do not want a return to those conditions. He added that the Aam Aadmi Party would seek a fresh mandate on the basis of its welfare-oriented initiatives and transparent governance model.
Expressing confidence ahead of the Assembly elections, Sisodia said the party would once again form the government in Punjab with a full majority, backed by the support of people who have witnessed the results of its policies and governance.
