India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in five districts of Punjab on Saturday, while the intensity and coverage of rain are expected to decrease in the coming days.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, Pathankot will remain under a heavy rainfall alert on September 6, but no weather warnings have been issued for the rest of the state on September 7 and 8.
Meanwhile, Punjab recorded a 1.6-degree Celsius drop in its average maximum temperature on Friday. Despite the decline, temperatures remained close to the seasonal normal across the state.
The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Bathinda Airport, reaching 36.8 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest location in Punjab during the day.
Weather officials said that while scattered showers may continue in some areas, the overall rainfall activity is expected to weaken significantly after Saturday.
