Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that this year, 25,000 cusecs of water will be released into the canals from May 1, ensuring improved irrigation support for farmers across the state.
He also stated that direct sowing of paddy will take place from May 15 to May 31. During this period, farmers will receive adequate canal water supply along with eight hours of electricity to support agricultural operations.
Taking a political dig, CM Mann said that leaders like Sukhbir Singh Badal should ensure the fulfillment of “Modi’s guarantees,” questioning earlier promises made at the Centre.
Haryana Utilized Water Efficiently, Not a Single Extra Drop Drawn : CM
On water-sharing issues, Mann claimed that Haryana has used 70% of its allocated Bhakra Dam water so far and is utilizing its share properly. He added that Haryana will continue to receive water till May 21, and accused the state of not overusing its quota, while stating that Punjab has been regularly communicating concerns through official letters.
The Chief Minister also addressed concerns regarding paddy storage. He said there will be no shortage of space this year, following his recent meeting with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. According to him, 290 special trains are currently operating to transport food grains, ensuring smooth storage and distribution of the paddy crop.
Speaking about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) meeting in Jalandhar, the Chief Minister clarified that it is only a meeting of party observers.
On the recent railway track blast incident, Mann stated that the Punjab team is in touch with central agencies and an investigation is currently underway.
