Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Mining Department in Nabha, Patiala, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
According to a VB spokesperson, the accused, identified as Hardeep Singh, was arrested red-handed based on a complaint filed by a contractor from Alipur Arian village in Patiala district.
The complainant alleged that Hardeep Singh had threatened to issue challans against his overloaded tipper vehicles and demanded ₹50,000 in exchange for not taking action against him.
Unwilling to pay the alleged illegal gratification, the contractor approached the Vigilance Bureau Range Patiala and reported the matter.
Acting on the complaint, the VB laid a trap. During the operation, the accused SDO was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against Hardeep Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station in Patiala. Further investigation into the case is underway.
