A 27-year-old man of Punjabi origin, identified as Jasman Sekhon, was shot dead in Surrey, Canada, in a brutal firing incident. According to police, Sekhon was allegedly linked to the drug trade. Authorities are currently investigating when he moved from Punjab and how long he had been involved in such activities.

The incident took place on Saturday, but police disclosed details on Tuesday. Officials said residents in the area were terrified after hearing multiple gunshots and immediately alerted emergency services. Police arrived at the scene within 15 minutes. The victim was given CPR and rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Police revealed that more than 10 rounds were fired at Sekhon. The glass windows of the house were shattered, and the crime scene was found strewn with broken glass and blood. Preliminary investigation suggests the murder may have been carried out due to rivalry in the drug trade, possibly linked to gang activity.

According to officials, Sekhon was at a townhouse in the 15100 block of 60 Avenue around 6:40 pm on Saturday when the shooting occurred. Details of the case were shared in a press release on Tuesday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) stated that Sekhon had a prior criminal record and was allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Early indications point to a targeted killing connected to organized crime. IHIT also revealed that about 15 minutes after the shooting, a burning vehicle believed to be linked to the suspects was found near 186 Street and 44 Avenue.

IHIT spokesperson Sergeant Freda Fong described the incident as a brazen shooting in what is otherwise considered a quiet neighborhood. Investigation teams are actively working to trace the attackers.
