Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, popularly known as Yashinder Kaur, was allegedly murdered after a six-year relationship with a Canada-based man took a tragic turn. According to police sources and family members, the accused, Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi Barar from Moga, had hidden the fact that he was already married.
The two reportedly met on Instagram and gradually became close friends before falling in love. Their friendship continued for nearly six years, and Sukhi Barar would often meet Yashinder whenever he visited Punjab from Canada. Family members claimed that the singer was pressuring him for marriage, unaware that he was already married.
Police suspect that the hidden marriage became the motive behind the murder. When Yashinder allegedly insisted on marriage, Sukhi Barar is believed to have conspired with his father and associates to eliminate her. After the murder, the accused reportedly fled to Canada through Nepal.
Police have arrested three accused in connection with the case. The arrested men have been identified as Pritam and Kamjit, while the identity of the third accused is yet to be confirmed. All three accused have been taken on a two-day police remand.
A press conference has been scheduled for today, where DCP Jaskeeranjit Singh Teja is expected to reveal details about how the murder conspiracy was planned and executed. The briefing will take place at the Police Lines at 3:30 PM.
Meanwhile, Yashinder Kaur’s body has been kept in the mortuary of Samrala Civil Hospital. The postmortem will not be conducted today as the family said they are still actively involved in the ongoing investigation.
