The agitation against the fee hike at Punjabi University (PU), Patiala, intensified on Monday as students associated with the United Sikh Students Federation shut all the main gates of the campus. The protesters blocked entry to employees and students, preventing anyone from entering the university premises.

As a result of the blockade, a large number of university staff members were forced to return without reporting for duty. The protest has significantly disrupted normal functioning on the campus.

Student leaders alleged that the university administration's decision to increase fees has placed an additional financial burden on students. They argued that higher education is becoming increasingly unaffordable, especially for students already facing economic challenges.

The students have been staging a sit-in outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding the rollback of the fee hike along with other pending issues. Protest leaders warned that their agitation would continue until the administration takes concrete steps to address their demands.
