Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has issued a rain alert for 13 districts of Punjab, forecasting light to moderate rainfall until 12:45 pm on Tuesday. Chandigarh has also been placed under alert.
Several parts of Punjab have been witnessing cloudy and rainy conditions since Tuesday morning, providing some relief from the prevailing heat. The weather department said the state’s maximum temperature recorded a decline of 1.3°C.
Gurdaspur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.8°C, while Chandigarh registered 31.5°C, which is 2°C below the normal temperature for this time of the year.
According to the forecast, moderate rainfall is likely in Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Chandigarh, Kharar, Batala, Dasuya, Mukerian, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Dhar Kalan.
Light rain is expected in Patiala, Rajpura, Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana, Kharar, Khamanon, Chamkaur Sahib, Samrala, Rupnagar, Phillaur, Phagwara, Jalandhar-I, Kapurthala, Jalandhar-II, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, Nangal, Hoshiarpur, Baba Bakala, Amritsar-I, Batala, Dera Baba Nanak, Bholath, Dasuya, Mukerian and Gurdaspur.
The weather department has predicted rainfall across all districts of Punjab during the day. Earlier, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Monday, rainfall was recorded in five districts, with Amritsar receiving the highest rainfall of 53 mm.
Officials said the ongoing wet spell is expected to keep temperatures under check and provide further relief from humid conditions in many parts of Punjab and Chandigarh.
