Punjab witnessed a change in weather conditions on Monday as rain lashed several parts of the state, including Chandigarh, Mohali and Jalandhar. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for 13 districts, while the average temperature across the state dropped by around 1.8 degrees Celsius.
According to the weather department, light to moderate rainfall is likely at some places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, Mohali, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Barnala.
Some parts of Punjab also received rain on Sunday, although the showers could not be officially recorded at several locations.
The change in weather has brought down temperatures across all districts. Rupnagar recorded the lowest temperature at 28.3 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda remained the hottest place in the state.
The weather department said moisture is currently reaching the region from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, leading to cloud formation and increasing the possibility of rainfall.
However, the IMD does not expect heavy rainfall in the state. The southwest monsoon continues to withdraw from Punjab and Chandigarh, indicating that the monsoon season is gradually coming to an end.
