Punjab celebrated Raksha Bandhan with great enthusiasm on Thursday, with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains joining the festivities by getting a rakhi tied by his sister, while celebrations were held across the state in homes, temples and public institutions.
Popular singer Ranjit Singh Baba also marked the occasion with his sister, highlighting the spirit of the brother-sister festival. In Ludhiana Central Jail, inmates were allowed to meet their sisters, who tied rakhis under police supervision, creating emotional moments for many families.
A unique celebration took place at Shri Hanumant Dham in Chandigarh’s Sector 40-B, where devotees tied an eco-friendly rakhi measuring more than 12.25 feet in length to the 32-foot-tall statue of Veer Hanuman.
Meanwhile, a state-level Rakhar Punya function is being held in Baba Bakala, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to release financial assistance to women beneficiaries under the Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana. More than 7.605 million women have registered under the scheme, with eligible beneficiaries receiving monthly financial support.
Astrologers said this year’s Raksha Bandhan is considered especially auspicious as there is no Bhadra period affecting the festival, allowing devotees to tie rakhis throughout the day.
