Shiromani Akali Dal suffered a setback in Jalandhar after prominent leader Rantej Singh Powar joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with his supporters on Wednesday.
Powar, who belongs to a renowned Taksali Akali family, was formally inducted into the party by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. During the induction ceremony, Mann welcomed Powar into AAP by presenting him with a Siropa.
Rantej Singh Powar is the great-grandson of Giani Shankar Singh Ji and the grandson of Sardar Bir Singh Ji, both respected figures associated with the Akali tradition.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Aam Aadmi Party remains committed to the development of Punjab, corruption-free governance and public welfare. He stated that the party’s people-centric policies and transparent governance have encouraged prominent personalities and leaders from various fields to join AAP.
Mann said the inclusion of a leader like Rantej Singh Powar, who comes from a traditional political background, would further strengthen the party’s organisational structure in Jalandhar and nearby areas. He added that AAP would continue working collectively to transform Punjab into a prosperous and vibrant “Rangla Punjab.”
After joining the party, Powar expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for welcoming him into AAP.
