In a major relief for students and parents, the Punjab Government has extended the deadline for obtaining and updating digitised birth certificates on the Unified Student Registration Portal for the 2026-27 academic session.
Announcing the decision, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said Class 8 students who do not yet have a digitised birth certificate will now have until October 30, 2026, to obtain the document and upload it to the portal. Students of Classes 9 and 10 have also been given additional time until the registration process for the next academic session to make necessary corrections and updates.
The minister said the move, approved by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is aimed at ensuring that no student is denied admission or faces academic setbacks due to delays in documentation.
Bains said the extension reflects the Punjab Government's commitment to modernising school education through the Unified Student Registration Portal while remaining sensitive to the practical challenges faced by students and parents.
"Our government is committed to building a paperless, transparent and efficient education system. At the same time, we will not allow procedural hurdles to come in the way of a child's education," the minister said.
He also directed all school heads to work closely with parents to ensure that the registration process is completed smoothly within the revised timelines.
The decision is part of the Punjab Government's broader push to strengthen digital governance in education while safeguarding the interests of students during the transition to a fully digitised system.
