A retired Army personnel was killed in a road accident after a car collided with his motorcycle near the Kotfatta canal on Mansa Road in Bathinda on Saturday.

According to officials, the accident occurred near the Kotfatta Suan, where the impact of the collision was so severe that the car was badly damaged from the front. Upon receiving information, teams from the SSF Police and Sahara Jan Seva’s Life Saving Brigade, led by Vicky Kumar, rushed to the spot with an ambulance. Police from Kotfatta police station also reached the scene.

After completing legal formalities, the Sahara team shifted the body to the mortuary of Bathinda Civil Hospital.

Kotfatta SHO Harbans Singh identified the deceased as 58-year-old Amritpal Singh, son of Bhan Singh and a resident of Dariyapur Kalan village. He was a retired Army veteran and was returning home after purchasing supplies from the Bathinda Army Canteen when the accident took place.

The SHO said that the car involved in the accident was being driven by Yuvraj Sharma, son of Kuldeep Kumar and a resident of Dashmesh Nagar, Sunam. Police reached the spot, assessed the situation and, following a preliminary investigation, arrested the driver.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
