Mohali Municipal Corporation elected a new mayor on Tuesday, with Sarabjit Singh Samana, son of MLA Kulwant Singh, being chosen to lead the civic body.
Following the announcement, party president Aman Arora, MLA Kulwant Singh, and Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia congratulated Samana and celebrated the occasion by offering him sweets before he officially assumed the mayoral chair.
The mayoral election, however, witnessed political protests. The Congress party boycotted the election proceedings, while a councillor from the Shiromani Akali Dal staged a walkout from the meeting, reflecting opposition to the process.
Authorities also implemented strict security and confidentiality arrangements during the session. All councillors were required to deposit their mobile phones at the entrance of the Municipal Corporation building before entering the hall.
Entry was permitted only after their attendance and identity were officially recorded, ensuring a controlled and secure voting environment.
