Around 10 to 15 students were injured after a school bus collided with a Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus on a national highway in Mansa on Monday morning at approximately 7:30 am. One child is reported to be in critical condition, while the school bus driver sustained fractures in both legs.
The injured were rushed to a government hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. The school bus involved in the accident reportedly belonged to Holy Heart Public School, Kishangarh.
According to the PRTC bus driver, he was travelling from Mansa towards Jakhal when a motorcycle rider suddenly appeared in front of the bus. The rider was allegedly talking on a mobile phone while driving. To avoid a collision, the PRTC driver applied emergency brakes.
Moments later, the school bus travelling behind the PRTC vehicle rammed into it. The impact of the collision left several students injured and seriously wounded the school bus driver.
Officials said a young girl suffered severe injuries and remains in critical condition. Other injured students were also admitted to the government hospital for medical care.
Following the accident, a large crowd gathered at the scene. Police teams reached the spot and began collecting information. Bareta Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and examine the circumstances under which the two buses collided.
