School timings across Punjab will change from October 1, 2026, with all government, aided and private schools opening at 8:30 AM instead of 8 AM.
Under the revised schedule, schools will remain open until the afternoon. The new timings will apply to primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools across the state and will remain in effect until October 31, 2026.
Punjab has more than 19,000 government schools. The Education Department has directed all District Education Officers and school heads to ensure strict compliance with the revised timings so that students and parents do not face any inconvenience.
School Timings in Punjab
The school schedule in Punjab is revised three times during the academic session:
April 1 to September 30: Schools operate from 8 AM to 2 PM.
October 1 to October 31: Primary schools operate from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, while middle, high and senior secondary schools operate from 8:30 AM to 2:50 PM.
November 1 to February 28: Primary schools operate from 9 AM to 3 PM, while middle to senior secondary schools operate from 9 AM to 3:20 PM.
The department has asked school authorities to communicate the revised timings to students and parents and ensure that the new schedule is followed from October 1.
