Shaheedi Nagar Kirtan Held at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to Pay Tribute to Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji

Punjab Newsline, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib :

The annual Shaheedi Nagar Kirtan was held on Friday at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib with profound devotion, discipline, and Panthic unity. The sacred event was dedicated to commemorating the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji—Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji—as well as Mata Gujri Ji. Sangat from across the country and abroad participated in large numbers, paying heartfelt tributes to the great martyrs.

The Nagar Kirtan was led by the Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj. His presence alongside Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa, Head of the historic Damdami Taksal, added special significance to the occasion. This rare and powerful sight symbolised the unity between Sikh temporal authority and the centuries-old Gurmat scholarly tradition, deeply moving the gathered devotees.

Commencing from Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, the Shaheedi Nagar Kirtan proceeded with the continuous recitation of Gurbani, soulful Shabad Kirtan, and resonating slogans of Sikh history. Led by the Panj Piaras, the procession included Nihang Singh jathas, Gurmat preachers, Kirtani jathas, Gatka groups, and representatives of various Sikh organisations. Along the route, devotees showered flower petals and raised powerful chants of “Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal,” creating a spiritually charged atmosphere.

During the procession, historical accounts of the supreme sacrifices of the Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji were recalled. Speakers highlighted how the young Sahibzadas stood firm against tyranny and oppression, choosing faith and righteousness over submission, even at such a tender age. Mata Gujri Ji’s immense courage, spiritual strength, and unwavering commitment to Sikh principles were also remembered with deep respect.

The event was conducted in a well-organised and peaceful manner. Dedicated sewadars ensured arrangements for langar, drinking water, and medical assistance for the sangat. With coordinated efforts by the Gurdwara management and local administration, the Nagar Kirtan concluded smoothly and in an atmosphere of devotion.

The Shaheedi Nagar Kirtan was not only a religious observance but also a reminder for the younger generation to draw inspiration from the unparalleled sacrifices of the Sahibzadas. The event once again reaffirmed the Sikh community’s deep-rooted connection with its history, martyrdom, and eternal Gurmat values.
