Panic gripped Chandigarh on Monday morning after a bomb threat message was received by the police control room, naming six schools located in different parts of the city.
Following the alert, police and security agencies immediately stepped up security measures and launched searches at the schools mentioned in the threat.
The schools named in the message include Air Force School, Sector 31, St Soldier International School, Sector 28, DAV Model School, Sector 15, St Stephen’s School, Sector 45 and Ajit School in Sectors 41 and 45.
Information has also emerged about a threat message concerning Ankur School located on the Punjabi University campus.
Police teams reached the concerned schools after receiving the information and took charge of security arrangements. The school premises and surrounding areas are being thoroughly checked as a precautionary measure.
Bomb disposal squads and other security agencies have also been alerted and deployed for necessary checks.
Officials are currently investigating the source of the threat message and its technical details. It is not yet clear through which medium the message was sent or who was behind it.
There has been no confirmation so far of any suspicious object being found at the schools. Police are continuing their investigation and security checks.
