A major road accident in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district claimed the lives of six people, including a mother and her 10-year-old son, after a pickup vehicle plunged nearly 500 metres off a hillside road in the Rampur subdivision on Friday evening.

All six occupants died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Asha Kumari (42), wife of Satya Prakash and a resident of Kuanu in Ani, her son Yugal (10), pickup driver Ashok Jain (32) of Chhalta village, Abhishek Sani (23) of Sharnal village, Layak Ram (56) of Pat village, and Nitin (23) of Chhalta village, all from the Rampur region of Shimla district. Asha Kumari was reportedly travelling to her parental home in Kasha.

According to police, the accident occurred on the Taklech–Devthi road near Dhandhol when the pickup, which was returning from Rampur after delivering milk and heading towards Kashapat, reportedly went out of the driver's control around 4:30 pm. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed onto a lower roadside after falling approximately 500 metres, leaving it completely mangled.

After receiving information about the accident, police and administrative officials rushed to the scene. Local villagers joined rescue efforts and assisted authorities in recovering the victims from the wreckage. A video of the accident site has also surfaced on social media.

SDM Rampur Harsh Amarendra Singh said he personally reached the accident site after receiving the report. He stated that immediate financial assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased as per government norms and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving on hilly roads. The tragedy has left the entire Kashapat Panchayat in mourning.
