An unidentified boy, believed to be around six years old, was found dead in a canal near Tahina village in Faridkot, with his hands and legs tied with thin iron wire. The recovery has raised suspicion of murder, following which the Sadar police have registered a case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation.
The incident came to light after village chowkidar Jagseer Singh spotted the child’s body stuck near a bridge over the Rajwah. He immediately informed the Sadar police, following which a police team led by Sub-Inspector Satpal Singh reached the spot.
With the help of Sahara Society volunteers, the police recovered the body from the canal. The child was wearing a khaki-coloured T-shirt, black half-pants and sandals. His hands and legs were found bound with wire.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the child may have been murdered before his body was dumped into the canal. However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death will be established during the investigation.
The body has been shifted to the mortuary of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital for identification.
Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Satpal Singh said a murder case had been registered against unidentified persons on the basis of the village chowkidar’s statement. Police are also contacting nearby police stations to check reports of missing children and gather information that could help establish the boy’s identity.
Police said further investigation will be carried out after the child’s identity is established.
