A man was allegedly murdered following a long-running property dispute in a village in the Majitha area, with police arresting his father, stepmother, and other accused in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as Akashdeep Singh.
According to the police, the family had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute over ownership of a house. During the altercation, Akashdeep Singh was allegedly assaulted, leading to his death. Investigators said the accused later disposed of his body in a canal in an alleged attempt to conceal the crime before fleeing the scene.
The victim's wife told police that her husband had been beaten by his father, stepmother, and stepbrothers. She alleged that after his death, the family members jointly dumped his body into the canal to destroy evidence.
During the investigation, police inspected the family home and reportedly found bloodstains on the walls. Investigators also discovered that the walls had been freshly painted, allegedly in an attempt to cover up the blood evidence. Forensic teams collected samples and other evidence from the scene.
Based on the findings, police arrested the victim's father Malkit Singh, stepmother Manjit Kaur, and other individuals allegedly involved in the crime. They are currently being questioned as investigators examine how the murder was planned and who assisted in transporting and disposing of the body.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and that further legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem report, forensic analysis, and interrogation of the accused. Authorities added that if evidence points to the involvement of additional individuals, they will also be named in the case.
