Two women riding an Activa scooter were killed in a tragic road accident in Punjab's Faridkot on Friday morning after a speeding Swift car rammed into their vehicle and dragged them several metres before fleeing the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjana (43), wife of Mandeep Kumar, and Pooja (49), wife of Manoj Kumar, both residents of Shaheed Balwinder Singh Nagar. The two women, who were sisters-in-law, were on their daily trip to fetch drinking water in cans from a canal-side tubewell.
According to police, the accident occurred near the Jahaz Ground when the speeding car collided head-on with their scooter. The impact was so severe that both women were dragged for several metres, suffering critical head injuries.
They were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The car driver fled immediately after the accident. Police reached the spot, seized both the damaged vehicles, and initiated an investigation. A search is underway to trace and arrest the absconding driver.
