Three people were killed and two others injured after a speeding car lost control and overturned multiple times on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district on Saturday morning.
The accident took place in the Dauki police station area near kilometre marker 15.400 on the expressway. According to police, five people from Delhi were travelling in the car and were on their way to Ballia when the mishap occurred at around 7:30 am.
Officials said the car was reportedly moving at a speed of around 140 kmph when the driver lost control. The vehicle crashed into the central divider and flipped several times. The impact was so severe that three passengers seated in the rear were thrown out of the vehicle and fell into a gorge nearly 30 feet deep.
The victims landed on rocks below and died on the spot. The driver and another passenger seated in the front sustained injuries in the crash.
Upon receiving information about the accident, teams from Dauki Police and the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) rushed to the scene. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.
Station House Officer (SHO) Dauki, Sunit Kumar Sharma, said the car overturned after colliding with the divider. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
