The State Government organised a farewell ceremony in honour of Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Peterhoff here today. Lady Governor Janaki Shukla was also present on the occasion. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu honoured the Governor and the Lady Governor by presenting them with traditional shawls, Himachali caps and mementos as a mark of respect and gratitude.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that it was an emotional moment for him to bid farewell to the Devbhoomi of Himachal Pradesh as he moves on to assume a new responsibility. “When one works in a State or a region, it is natural to develop an attachment to that place. But my experience with Himachal Pradesh has been truly special. Himachal is not only Devbhoomi but also a ‘Prem Bhoomi’. The people here are simple, sincere and full of warmth,” he said.
Expressing gratitude for the affection he received during his tenure, the Governor said that he was leaving the State with cherished memories of the love and cooperation extended by the people. “I am grateful for the support I received from all political parties, social and cultural organisations and from the officers and employees of the government,” he remarked.
He said that Himachal Pradesh was progressing steadily on the path of development and that the State’s peaceful environment, rich cultural traditions and strong social harmony provided inspiration for continuous growth.
He emphasized the need to focus on efforts to curb the growing menace of drug abuse, environmental protection and development of the tourism sector.
“I am deeply thankful to the State Government for organizing this programme. I leave with heartfelt gratitude and wish the people of Himachal Pradesh good health, happiness and continued prosperity,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the moment was filled with emotion as the State bids farewell to a dignified and inspiring Governor. “As Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla carried out his responsibilities with dignity, sensitivity and dedication. His conduct and decisions upheld the spirit and sanctity of the Constitution and enhanced the prestige of the constitutional office,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that under the Governor’s leadership, Lok Bhavan became a responsive centre connected with public concerns, spreading a message of goodwill and cooperation among different sections of society. “He remained closely connected with the people, regularly interacting with students, youth, social organizations and citizens. His presence in universities and educational institutions inspired young minds to pursue knowledge, values and service to the nation,” he added.
He further said that the Governor’s deep respect for the rich culture, traditions and spiritual values of Devbhoomi Himachal Pradesh was widely appreciated. “As he assumes the responsibility of the Governor of Telangana, we are confident that he will continue to serve with the same wisdom, experience and compassionate leadership,” the Chief Minister said. He conveyed his best wishes for the Governor’s health, happiness and success in his new role.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta welcomed the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Lady Governor and other distinguished guests and recalled the Governor’s valuable contributions to the State during the past three years.
Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Cabinet Ministers, Judges of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, Senior officers, dignitaries and prominent people were also present on the occasion.
