Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE) Agamjot Singh, posted with the Water Supply and Sanitation Department in Kapurthala, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000. The amount was the first instalment of a total bribe demand of ₹1.25 lakh.

According to a VB spokesperson, the accused was arrested on the complaint of a Sub-Divisional Clerk posted at Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Sub-Division No. 2, Kapurthala.

The complainant was transferred by Agamjot Singh to the Water Supply Scheme at village Chakkoki in Kapurthala district on October 5, 2026. As the new place of posting was located far from his residence, he requested the SDE to cancel or stop the transfer.

The complainant later came to know through his colleague, Amarinder Singh, a Fitter Helper, that the accused was allegedly demanding money to stop the transfer. Amarinder Singh contacted Agamjot Singh over the phone, during which the SDE allegedly demanded ₹1.25 lakh, to be paid in instalments. The conversation was reportedly recorded on Amarinder Singh’s mobile phone.

The complainant then approached the VB Range Jalandhar and reported the matter. Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and caught Agamjot Singh red-handed while allegedly accepting ₹30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

The tainted currency of ₹30,000 was recovered from the accused.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Agamjot Singh at the VB Police Station, Range Jalandhar. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
