Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House on Friday, triggering intense political speculation across the state.
Meeting has quickly become one of the most talked-about political developments in Punjab, with discussions centering on the possibility of a renewed alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
SAD and BJP were long-time allies in Punjab politics and contested several elections together. However, their partnership ended during the farmers’ agitation against the now-repealed farm laws. The two parties fought the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections separately, and they also remained apart during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
