A tragic road accident at the Hallo Majra Light Point late Monday night claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy, Sushant, who was returning home with his father after purchasing goods from a local shop.
According to information, the father was riding a motorcycle ahead while Sushant was cycling alongside him. A speeding truck, which reportedly jumped a red light, hit the teenager and ran over him.
Eyewitnesses said the truck passed over the boy, leaving him critically injured. Sushant died on the spot in front of his father, turning the incident into a deeply distressing moment for the family.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident occurred due to negligence on the part of the truck driver, who allegedly ignored the red signal and attempted to cross the intersection at high speed. After the incident, the driver fled the scene along with the vehicle.
Police launched a search operation immediately after receiving the information, setting up checkpoints across nearby areas. The accused driver was later arrested from Derabassi.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against the driver under relevant sections, including rash and negligent driving causing death, and further investigation is underway.
