A 25-year-old temple priest, Sachin, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people in Kathura village of Haryana’s Sonipat district following rumours about alleged obscene behaviour involving his brother. Police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation into the incident.
Sachin had been living and serving as a priest at a Devi temple in Kathura village for the past three years. According to the information available, some people allegedly attacked him on Sunday after rumours concerning his brother circulated in the village.
Sachin sustained serious injuries in the assault. A doctor was called to the spot after the incident but declared him dead.
Following the incident, a team from Baroda police station and personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reached the scene and began collecting evidence. The police are examining the circumstances surrounding the murder and questioning people as part of the investigation.
Aman, Sachin’s brother and a resident of Rohera village in Kaithal district, lodged a complaint with the police, accusing unidentified individuals of murdering Sachin.
Police said the case is being investigated thoroughly and expressed confidence that the accused would be arrested soon. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
