These laws are changing from July 1, read which section will be applied in murder cases

You must have heard and seen a lot in Hindi films when the judge sahab used to say that in view of the statements and evidence of all the witnesses, the court has come to the conclusion that the accused is guilty under section 302 of Tajirat-e-Hind and is sentenced to life imprisonment. Tajirat-e-Hind would mean Indian Penal Code i.e. Indian Penal Code (IPC), but now from July 1, 2024, the criminal law is being changed. Now action will not be taken under IPC but cases will be registered under the Indian Justice Code (BNS).

According to the information, there are 511 sections in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 358 sections have been included in the Indian Justice Code. The order of the sections will also be changed in the new law. In this, the section which will replace section 302 of murder from July 1 will now be called 103. Similarly, changes are also being made in the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure). It will now be called the Indian Civil Protection Code. According to the information, 484 sections were included in the CrPC and now 531 sections have been included under the new law. Along with this, the name of the Indian Evidence Act-1872 has also been changed. Now it will be called the Indian Evidence Act 2023. These will be the new sections
