Thieves allegedly carried out a major theft outside Ambition Palace near Kheri Gandian village, adjoining Rajpura, during a wedding function last night, targeting several vehicles parked in the palace premises.
According to the information, the thieves smashed the windows of around 11 to 12 cars parked in the palace parking area and allegedly stole lakhs of rupees in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables kept inside the vehicles.
The incident took place barely one kilometre from the local police station, raising questions over the security arrangements in the area.
Local residents said that a similar incident had taken place at the same location a few days ago, when the window of a car was broken and valuables related to a wedding ceremony were stolen. They claimed that the police have yet to trace those involved in the earlier incident.
Station House Officer of Kheri Gandian police station, Jarnail Singh Bhullar, said the police were conducting a serious investigation into the matter.
He said CCTV footage from cameras installed around the area had been taken into possession and was being examined to identify the suspects. The officer said the police were working to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest.
Further investigation is underway.
