Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today shared major breakthroughs in the ongoing war against drugs under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s "Yudh Nashian Virudh" mission. Addressing the media in Patiala, Dr. Balbir Singh said that the campaign has entered a decisive phase, with both strong enforcement and a robust rehabilitation program yielding encouraging results across the state.
The Health Minister informed that over the past months, Punjab Police has seized 196 kg of heroin, 55 kg of charas and ganja, and a large quantity of illegal tablets, opium, bhukki, and synthetic drugs. The total value of drug money seized during various operations stands at around 6 crores. As per official data, 2,954 FIRs have been registered and 4,919 drug peddlers are arrested.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that community support has become the backbone of this movement. “Villagers and parents are now openly identifying drug peddlers in their areas. Fear has shifted—from common people to the drug suppliers,” he said.
