Punjab and Chandigarh have witnessed a change in weather conditions as the monsoon has become active once again, bringing relief from the heat and humidity experienced over the past few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall are likely at several places across the state on Monday.
Chandigarh is also expected to witness partly cloudy skies, although no significant change in maximum temperatures has been recorded. Temperatures have now returned to near-normal levels, with Bathinda registering the highest maximum temperature in the state at 37.5 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has forecast rainfall in 16 districts of Punjab. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Gurdaspur and Pathankot, for which an alert has been issued.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated locations in Pathankot, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar and Mohali. Similar weather conditions are likely in Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala districts, where light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places during the day.
