A tragic road accident took place in Haryana’s Yamunanagar when a truck loaded with maize overturned on two motorcycles near Laldhang on the Jagadhri-Paonta National Highway, killing four members of a family.
According to reports, the deceased include a father and his two daughters, along with another relative. The father’s wife sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
The family, residents of Chuharpur, had set out early Friday morning around 9 am for a pilgrimage to Shri Renuka Ji in Himachal Pradesh. Rajendra Dhiman, who works in wood and repair work, was traveling with his family along with his brother-in-law, Phool Singh, from Daulatpur.
The accident occurred near the Kalesar National Park area while descending a hilly stretch. As the group reached the steep and sharp curve near Laldhang close to the Himachal border a truck carrying sacks of maize reportedly lost control due to the slope and road conditions.
Eyewitnesses said the truck first swayed uncontrollably and then moved onto the wrong side of the road while trying to negotiate the curve. The two motorcycles carrying five people attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle but got trapped near a roadside railing.
In a matter of seconds, the truck overturned onto both bikes. One woman, Usha, was thrown off and survived with injuries, while the remaining four occupants died on the spot.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is underway.
