A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two people late Wednesday night near village Pir Jain on the Chandigarh–Sirhind highway in Fatehgarh Sahib district.
According to police, the accident occurred around 11 pm when a truck coming from the Chandigarh side collided with a scooty. The impact was so severe that the scooty became lodged underneath the truck, triggering a massive fire.
Within moments, flames engulfed both vehicles, which were completely destroyed in the blaze. The two scooty riders died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Mandeep Singh, a resident of village Kotla Bajwara, and 25-year-old Pooja from village Manupur. Mandeep Singh was reportedly employed as a wood craftsman.
Police officials described the crash as extremely horrific, with both victims suffering fatal injuries due to the force of the collision.
After receiving information about the accident, teams from the Punjab Police Road Safety Force and Badali Ala Singh police station rushed to the spot. With the help of local villagers, they brought the fire under control, managed the situation, and restored traffic movement on the highway.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Singh said that the damaged truck and scooty have been taken into police custody. The bodies were sent to Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, for post-mortem examination.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, and further legal proceedings are underway.
