Two 16-year-old boys studying at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Rohru, went missing after reportedly drowning in the Pabbar River while bathing on Tuesday. Police and administrative officials launched a rescue operation soon after receiving information about the incident, but no trace of the teenagers had been found till late Tuesday night.
According to officials, the victims have been identified as Shiven Roshan (16), son of Shishu Pal, a resident of Karasa, and Saksham (16), son of Rajdev, a resident of Banoti. The two teenagers had gone to the river for a swim when they reportedly ventured into deep waters and were swept away.
Local residents alerted the police after witnessing the incident. Rescue teams from the administration and police immediately reached the spot and began a search operation. However, strong water currents in the river have made the rescue efforts challenging.
To strengthen the operation, the administration has called in a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Shimla. NDRF personnel are conducting intensive searches at several suspected locations along the river.
SDM Rohru Dharmesh Ramotra said the administration received information about the incident on Tuesday night and that efforts to locate the missing teenagers are continuing. He added that the rescue operation is being closely monitored by the administration.
