A sensation spread in Ludhiana after the body of an unidentified woman was found in the Sadar police station area. Police suspect that the woman was murdered elsewhere and her body was later dumped near a canal before the accused fled the scene.
According to preliminary investigations, the woman sustained deep injuries from a sharp-edged weapon on the front portion of her abdomen and the left side of her neck. The victim’s identity has not yet been established.
After receiving information on the evening of September 18, Sadar police reached the spot, took possession of the body and launched an investigation. No mobile phone, purse, identity card or any other document was recovered from the deceased.
Police said the woman had a tattoo reading “Money” on her right arm, while three stars were tattooed on her left arm. Investigators hope these distinctive marks will help in identifying the victim.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar police station said the body has been kept in the mortuary of Civil Hospital for 72 hours to facilitate identification. Details of the woman’s appearance and tattoos have been circulated to all police stations, police posts and neighbouring districts.
Police are also examining missing persons reports registered during the past week in an effort to establish the victim’s identity and trace those responsible for the murder.
