United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar on Monday during his visit to Punjab. This marks his second visit to the holy shrine, having last visited Amritsar nearly 15 years ago. He was accompanied by a delegation of US officials and representatives associated with the US Congress.
Upon his arrival at Sri Darbar Sahib, Ambassador Gor was welcomed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami and the officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj. During the meeting, discussions were held on various issues concerning the Sikh community.
According to SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, the ambassador fondly recalled memories from his previous visit to the holy city and expressed his appreciation for the spiritual significance of the shrine.
During the interaction, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj also raised concerns regarding the recent unrest at Lovely Professional University (LPU), where student protests escalated into vandalism and incidents of arson. Taking a firm stance, he stated that burning vehicles, damaging university property and looting belongings are not part of Punjab’s culture or the character of its people.
The Akal Takht officiating Jathedar called for an impartial and transparent investigation into the entire episode, stressing that the truth should be brought before the public.
