Cyber Crime Police Station of Chandigarh Police has busted an interstate credit card fraud racket and arrested two women from Uttam Nagar in Delhi.
According to police, the accused posed as bank officials and contacted people with offers to increase the limit on their credit cards. They allegedly obtained confidential banking details, including OTPs and CVV numbers, and used the information to carry out cyber fraud worth several lakh rupees.
Police recovered 10 mobile phones and several SIM cards from the accused. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Cyber Geetanjali Khandelwal. An FIR in the case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station on June 30.
The complainant told police that he received a call claiming to be from SBI regarding an increase in his credit card limit. After sharing the OTP and other card-related confidential details, unauthorized transactions amounting to about Rs 1.92 lakh were made from his credit card.
Acting on technical inputs, police raided a rented accommodation in Uttam Nagar and arrested the two women. During interrogation, the accused revealed that another associate had supplied them with personal data of potential victims.
Police are now searching for other members of the racket. One of the arrested women has been sent to judicial custody, while the other is on police remand for further questioning.
