A day before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Punjab on Tuesday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), targeting the Centre over law and order and referring to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Kejriwal alleged that the central government had provided facilities and support that enabled Bishnoi to commit crimes not only in India but also across the world. He also accused the BJP of failing to maintain law and order in the states governed by the party.
In a post on social media platform X on Monday, Kejriwal said the BJP was unable to manage law and order in its own states but was preparing to visit Punjab to lecture others on the issue.
Referring to Bishnoi, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP had treated the gangster like a family member and provided him with all the facilities needed to carry out criminal activities.
He further said the people of Punjab were aware of the implications of voting for the BJP, claiming that doing so would be equivalent to inviting Bishnoi into the state.
Kejriwal’s remarks came ahead of Shah’s Punjab visit, setting the stage for a political confrontation over law and order. The AAP leader’s comments sought to turn the BJP’s focus on security issues back on the Centre, questioning its handling of gangster-related activities.
The allegations are part of the political exchange between the AAP and the BJP ahead of Shah’s visit.
