Polling for the Municipal Council elections in Gurdaspur, Dinanagar, and Qadian is currently underway, with the district administration and police implementing extensive security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and fair electoral process.
According to police officials, 350 security personnel have been deployed in Gurdaspur, while 300 police personnel are on duty in Dinanagar. Additional security forces have been stationed at sensitive polling booths to maintain law and order. All polling parties were dispatched to their respective polling stations with election materials on Friday evening.
Voting began at 8:00 AM on Saturday and will continue until 4:00 PM, after which the counting of votes will commence immediately. Candidates from various political parties have expressed confidence in their victory, adding to the excitement surrounding the election results.
In Gurdaspur Municipal Council, voting is being held across 29 wards and 70 polling booths. A total of 69,801 voters are eligible to cast their votes, including 36,131 men, 33,668 women, and two transgender voters.
Meanwhile, Dinanagar Municipal Council has 15 wards and 21 polling booths, where 19,242 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. The electorate comprises 10,083 men, 9,156 women, and three transgender voters.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been installed at all polling stations, and webcasting arrangements have been made to monitor the polling process in real time. The District Election Officer has appealed to all citizens to participate in the democratic process and cast their votes peacefully.
