A wanted accused allegedly involved in smuggling drugs and illegal weapons from Pakistan through drones has been arrested in Amritsar by a joint team of security agencies. The operation was carried out by the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF), Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), and the district police.
The arrested accused, identified as Ishanpreet Singh, is a resident of Narayangarh in the Chheharta area of Amritsar and had been on the radar of security agencies for a long time. Police allege that he was linked to an international network involved in receiving heroin and illegal arms sent from Pakistan via drones.
According to officials, on May 23, 2026, Punjab ANTF and the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a raid at his residence. However, the accused managed to escape by jumping from the rooftop. During the raid, security agencies recovered 12 illegal pistols and nearly 900 grams of heroin from the house.
After remaining absconding for several weeks, Ishanpreet Singh was traced to Bazpur in Uttarakhand, where he had been hiding. Acting on intelligence provided by Punjab ANTF, the joint team surrounded the location and successfully arrested him.
Following his arrest, the accused was questioned and later handed over to Punjab Police for further investigation. Authorities are now probing the larger cross-border smuggling network and searching for other individuals believed to be connected with the operation.
