A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her father-in-law following a quarrel in Buha Patti village of Tarn Taran district. After the alleged murder, the woman’s body was reportedly wrapped in plastic and a tarpaulin and hidden behind a small wall inside a room used for storing boxes and household items.
The deceased has been identified as Amandeep Kaur. According to the complaint filed by her mother, Paramjit Kaur Pammi, she reached her daughter’s house late Wednesday evening as usual. Amandeep’s father-in-law, Balwinder Singh, was present at the house at the time.
When Paramjit asked about her daughter, Balwinder allegedly said he had no information about her whereabouts. She searched several rooms but could not find Amandeep. Meanwhile, Amandeep’s husband, Santosh Singh, returned home from work and went outside to look for his wife.
After he left, Paramjit resumed the search and noticed the body of Amandeep wrapped in plastic and tarpaulin behind a small wall in the storage room.
According to the complaint, when Paramjit raised an alarm, Balwinder allegedly admitted that he had quarrelled with Amandeep and strangled her in anger. He then reportedly fled from the house.
Paramjit alleged that Balwinder frequently picked fights with Amandeep over minor issues when her husband went to work.
Sub-Inspector Kirpal Singh, Station House Officer of Kacha Pacca police station, said that based on Paramjit Kaur’s statement, Balwinder Singh alias Binder was booked and arrested. Police are investigating the case. The body was sent for post-mortem examination and was later handed over to the family.
